Competency Test

Everyone who climbs with us unsupervised needs to complete a competency test before their first climb. This consists of demonstrating the correct way to put on a harness, how to tie in and the rope test. The test will take no longer than 15 minutes, is booked online and will only need to be repeated every three years. Once you’ve passed your test you’re free to book casual climbing with us.

What We Offer

  • Bouldering
  • Top-rope climbing
  • Lead climbing

How to get started

Climbers over 18 are free to boulder independently from their first visit without any prior experience. New climbers need to register for a ‘Pay As You Go’ account (which we would recommend doing online to save time on the day), watch a short safety video and fill out a waiver at reception. Then you are ready to boulder!

Want a bit more guidance? We offer the following instructed sessions (Adult Climbing Pathway):

  • Adult Taster: These serve as a great way to try out both bouldering and rope climbing. They’re not, however, designed to teach all the relevant skills required to use the centre independently.
  • Beginner Climbing Courses: This course is perfect for novice climbers who want to learn to top-rope indoors safely and unsupervised. You’ll learn the basics of independent climbing, such as how to tie into a rope correctly, how to belay and safely hold the fall of a climber, and how to use different equipment.
  • Lead Climbing Courses: This course is perfect for top-rope climbers who want to advance their skills further and learn to lead climb indoors safely and unsupervised. You’ll learn how to be able to lead climb independently. This includes how to clip correctly, how to lead belay and safely hold the fall of a climber, as well as how to use equipment.
  • Finally, we have 60 and 90-minute private instructed sessions. These sessions can be customised to suit your needs.
