It’s tough out there. Whether it’s food prices, mortgage or rent costs, the fuel you put in your car or how much it costs to heat and power your home – everyone is feeling the pinch.
We here at Everyone Active are launching our ‘Everyone is Reducing Carbon’ Campaign. We’re sharing what we’re doing to reduce the significant running costs and environmental impact that one of our leisure centres has, and how you can help. There are different focuses: saving energy; saving water; recycling and promoting green transport to and from our centres.
Alongside highlighting what we’ll be doing as company, we’ll be demonstrating what you can do to help us out and how this can all translate towards helping reduce your running costs and carbon emissions at home.
We will be sharing with you exactly what we’re doing to help save energy, reduce water consumption, recycle more waste and to improve our green travel credentials. We’ll also be asking you to help us out along the way – pointing out where we can improve and if there’s anything we’re not doing.
Therefore, we’re asking you to assist us in making a dent in our carbon footprint by helping us to increase the proportion of waste from our centres that gets recycled. Naturally, leisure centres – especially those with cafés – produce a lot of waste, but we’ve made it our mission to recycle as much of it as possible – and we need your help! For example, 16 billion paper hot drink cups are used each year all over the world, using immeasurable amounts of water, wood and other valuable resources. Imagine what could be saved if we all brought our own coffee cup in from home?
In order to reduce the amount of waste generated from our centres and getting more recycled, we here at Everyone Active have instigated a number of initiatives. These include the following:
Visit a centre with a café and if you buy a hot drink using your own reusable cup, you’ll enjoy a 10% discount!
One of our measures is to encourage you – our valued members – to bring a reusable drinks bottle with you when you come to exercise, rather than buying a drink on your way. Our centres have water fountains that are free to use. This will save an enormous amount when it comes to single-use plastic and is certain to save you a few quid too!
We will also be providing more bins with improved labelling to make it easier for customers to know what can be put into the recycling bins.
There are a number of ways in which you, as customers, can assist us in increasing the amount we recycle. These include:
If you fancy a tea or coffee after your workout or need something to sustain you while watching your child’s swimming lesson, then why not bring a reusable cup from home from which to drink it? Not only will you be helping to save the planet, but you’ll be saving yourself 10% at our cafés too!
We’re trying hard to make sure all our bins are labelled clearly – and that there are more of them – so it couldn’t be easier to make sure materials that could be recycled go into the recycling bin, minimising the generation of waste that needs to be thrown away. This is one of the most important elements of our campaign to ensure we reduce the amount of waste generated and recycle as much as we could.
When exercising, we all know how important it is to stay hydrated. However, it’s also important to reduce the amount of single-use plastics you use. With that in mind, rather than buying a drink on your way to work out with us, why not bring a reusable bottle and make use of the many free water fountains our centres have to offer?
